Former governor of Oyo State, Lam Adesina is dead.
He died this morning at St Nicholas Hospital, Lagos after a prolonged
illness.
The ex governor suffered diabetes for a long time and was said
to have died as a result of complications from the ailment.
Adesina was the governor of the state under the Alliance for
Democracy between 1999 and 2003. He was succeeded as governor by Rashidi
Ladoja of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Adesina was born on 20 January 1939. He attended Loyola college in
Ibadan, then studied at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka from
1961-1963.
Later he attended the University of Ibadan in 1971. He worked
in private educational institutions before venturing into politics.
Adesina was a sponsor of the present Oyo governor, Abiola Ajimobi in
his successful bid to be elected to the senate to represent Oyo South in
2003.
Later the two men fell apart, and Ajimobi moved to the All
Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).
His body has been taken to Oyo State where he will be buried at his
Felele residence later today according to Islamic rites.
He was 73 years old.
